Typical publish flow
Edit in a draft
After you sign into the overlay, you usually work against an active draft. Changes save automatically (with a short debounce) so you can move between fields without a manual Save.
Preview
Use the version bar to preview the draft (or an older version) as it will appear on the site. Confirm layout, images, and locale-specific copy before publishing.
Publish
Publish promotes the draft content to live. Visitors then see the new values. Your team may also trigger webhooks or rebuilds after publish — that is configured by developers / Admins, not in the overlay.
Version bar basics
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Draft / Live toggle | view | Choose whether you are viewing (and editing) draft or live content. |
Active draft | draft | The draft currently receiving edits; switch or create another from the bar. |
Preview version | history | Temporarily view a specific version without publishing it. |
Publish | action | Promote draft values so live visitors see them. |
Multiple drafts
Teams can keep more than one draft (for example a campaign vs day-to-day copy). Activate the draft you want to edit, or create a new named draft from the version bar. Archive or delete drafts you no longer need — only when your role allows it.
Live quick edit
Some sites allow limited editing while viewing live. Prefer draft + publish for larger changes so unfinished work never reaches visitors mid-edit.
Locales
If the site has multiple locales, switch locale in the overlay (when enabled) and edit / publish per language. SEO title and description are page fields like any other content — see your developer’s marking for which pages expose them.
Do
- Preview the draft on the real page before publishing.
- Coordinate with teammates when sharing a draft so you don’t overwrite each other.
- Publish when the full change set is ready, not after every single keystroke.
Don’t
- Don’t assume autosave alone makes content live — publish is a separate step.
- Don’t leave half-finished campaigns in the only active draft if others need it.
